Foggy Bottom Walkingtown Tour a Success

Saturday September 14 was a beautiful day for our 4th annual Foggy Bottom Historic District in-person walking tour. Registration for the free tour filled up  early with over 25 participants. Ours was one of 65 citywide tours offered as part of the EventsDC annual weeklong WalkingTown celebration. Tour leaders and FBA History Project Chairs, Frank Leone and Denise Vogt, were assisted by event volunteer, Amy Lewis.

Walking tour pauses on I Street to discuss row house design and residents (Douglas Morris, Sept. 14, 2024).

There were some inquisitive walkers with questions about how the Washington Gas tanks (once located at what is now Potomac Plaza) worked and distributed gas. Many were surprised to learn how close the tanks were to existing rowhouses and how they loomed high over the horizon. The neighborhood was familiar to some, but none in the group knew about our historic alleys, Snows Court and Hughes Mews. But now they do. And they can help spread the word about our unique neighborhood!

Our next in person tours will be in conjunction with the George Washington University Museum and feature sites in the FB Historic District and on the GWU campus. Click on the dates/times to sign up for the tours which will be offered on October 19 at 10 am and later that day at 2 pm. Also, don’t forget our on-line FB Historic District history and arts tours.
