Foggy Bottom News - Twenty-Five Years Ago

Updated: Nov 23

By Denise Vogt

Thanks to the GWU Library Special Collections, you can now easily browse the back issues of the Foggy Bottom News on-line. The link to the November 1999 issue is an interesting read. For some it will be nostalgic and for others a new glimpse into our history. The issue covers the neighborhood dogs, community issues and events, ads from local businesses and Washington Post columnist Colbert King’s address to the FBA on its 40th Anniversary. In twenty-five years, a lot has changed.

Read all about it. A portion of the front page of the Foggy Bottom News, November 1999.

To read other archived issues (years 1958 – 2006) of the newsletter go to the Internet Archives pagehttps://archive.org/details/gwulibraries. To do a key word search – e.g. “Hughes Mews,” or “Maria Tyler,” or “26th St. Park” -- Enter the term “Foggy Bottom News” (use quotation marks) and your keyword(s) into the search bar, select the “search text contents” button, then hit “search this collection.” You can then read the pages of each issue – the key words in relevant articles are highlighted in blue.

The now digital newsletter continues to be an integral form of communication for the FBA, with Board member Peter Maye serving as the editor.
