DC Black History Sites include Foggy Bottom/West End

The DC Office of Planning recently launched a digital tour of Washington, DC Black History Sites. The tour includes nearly 300 places associated with African American history and culture in DC. The four Foggy Bottom/West End sites are St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Funkstown:  St. Mary’s Episcopal Church) the Leonard Grimes Residence Site (Funkstown:  Foggy Bottom’s Leonard Grimes), Duke Ellington’s Birthplace Site (Funkstown:  Happy Birthday Duke Ellington), and Thaddeus Stevens School (Funkstown: Since 1868 West End’s Historic Stevens School). The tour identifies numerous sites to explore throughout the city’s neighborhoods. The sites highlight the social, cultural, and political movements that are central to DC’s heritage. The page also provides a link to the African American Heritage Trail.

Happy Black History Month!
